From idea to transfer
Lightweight construction remains in focus
The STFI recently joined the Open Hybrid Lab Factory e.V. (OHLF) project as a member of the project in order to further develop its expertise in lightweight construction and to network with strong industrial and scientific partners. The OHLF strives to carry out research projects in the field of development of materials and production processes for economic and multifunctional lightweight construction and to accelerate the research and development processes through a large network of members. In the future, the STFI will support the Open Hybrid LabFactory with its know-how in the field of textile lightweight construction.
The lightweight campus
The Open Hybrid LabFactory offers optimal possibilities and resources for the research, development, manufacture and testing of hybrid components for the key future topics of the automotive industry, digitization and resource efficiency. A cornerstone of the success of the lightweight construction campus is the participation of industrial partners in a full membership of the association.
Lightweight textile construction in all its facets, starting with textile semi-finished products via functionally integrated and process-optimized manufacturing processes based on textile technologies and developing new hybrid material composites, is increasingly becoming the focus of research at STFI. The recycling of these new materials, which are in part very cost-, resource- and energy-intensive, will therefore continue to gain in importance. The new materials and processes require the development of suitable test methods and complex evaluation criteria. These tasks are set by our employees of the testing and certification body.
