From formulation development and material characterisation through to the transition to industrial-scale processes, the STFI is able to map every stage of textile Functionalisation development end-to-end. This provides companies and research partners with a seamless process chain: from hand samples and prototyping through to scalable production.

The available plant technology covers key processes for surface functionalisation and composite manufacturing, including coating, impregnation, thermal and physical activation processes, as well as combined process sequences. This enables functional properties such as protective effects, conductivity, adhesion, barrier properties or mechanical performance to be precisely adjusted and validated in a reproducible manner.

The following overview presents the relevant processes and technical equipment for the functional finishing of technical textiles and composite materials: practical, scalable and transferable to industrial applications.
