Textile lightweight engineering

The recycling of fibre-reinforced composites presents significant technological challenges that currently still hinder the widespread recovery of recycled materials from the lightweight construction industry. The textile lightweight engineering division works on textile technologies and develops semi-finished products from recycled materials based on staple fibres. As leaders in non-woven fabrics and mechanical recycling, we are playing a pioneering role in transforming the circular economy for high-performance fibres. Fibre composites thus enable valuable fibres to be given a second life.

Carbon fibre recycling

The Textile Lightweight engineering division boasts an extensive range of equipment with a working width of up to 1000 mm, enabling recycled fibres – with a focus on rCF – to be transformed back into customised semi-finished products.

rCF strands and Tapes

Improving material performance is the primary focus of the “rCF Fabrics and Tapes” development programme. The development work centres on the circular use of high-performance fibres for circular, high-performance and market-relevant applications.

Fibre composites

The plant technologies offer flexible options for the development of thermosetting and thermoplastic fibre composites with processing temperatures of up to 430°C. Both the batch production of sheet materials and continuous production form part of the product portfolio.

Material preparation

Textile waste fractions from garment manufacturing or production do not come in a homogeneous form. On the existing equipment, both the fibre length (ranging from 6–150 mm) and the degree of fibre opening can be adjusted using mechanical and aerodynamic processes.
