Digitisation throughout the textile value chain has become much more important in the textile industry in recent years. For both small and larger companies, digital business and production processes are increasingly an integral part of corporate strategy and essential for their future viability and competitiveness.
As an industry-related research institute, STFI has recognised the strategic importance of digitalisation for the textile industry and began to build up its own area of expertise a few years ago. The research and test field of digitalised, automated and networked production processes is used as a research and test environment for companies and employees.
STFI makes an important contribution to the textile industry in the field of digitalisation and Industrie 4.0 as evidenced by the large number of practical research and industry projects as well as the close contact to medium-sized companies.

Fields of application
You have the possibility of a virtual exploration at STFI. For this purpose, our futureTEX research and test field "Textile Factory of the future" with all its facilities was scanned by the company airmess GmbH from Dresden.
You can move freely around the room virtually and view individual plant technologies at close range. In the "Textile Factory of the Future", STFI scientists are working on topics related to digitalisation in the textile industry. Digital assistance systems, robotics, driverless transport systems and RFID technologies are the main components of the work in this field.
The virtual tour took place as part of the BBA project "Visit Saxony's Textile Hub", which is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Economics, Labour and Transport and implemented and coordinated by Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH.

KIMONO – Customised modelling of neurodermatitis textiles
Project KIMONO deals with the topic of how neurodermatitis textiles can be individually modelled and configured. The aim is to develop a tool with which neurodermatitis clothing can be customised and made up. In addition to neurodermatitis-active additives, new material combinations will also be included in this development, so that even innovative textile surfaces can be expected as potential preliminary products.

TOPAS – Physiologically optimised protective masks for everyday use
Respiratory masks are a hindrance when breathing and speaking, they fog up the glasses, slip and usually do not make the best impression visually either. In the TOPAS project, an alliance of science and industry has made a contribution to optimising the protective effect and wearing comfort as well as the general acceptance of respiratory masks suitable for everyday use for all age groups.
