MC4 consortium calls for survey
Waste characterisation of carbon and glass fibres
The MC4 project consortium is calling on the carbon and glass fibre processing industry to participate in a survey on waste characterisation with economic values.
The EU project MC4 - "Multi-level Circular Process Chain for Carbon and Glass Fibre Composites" started in April 2022. The project investigates circular approaches for the reuse of carbon and glass fibre composites. It develops process technologies and quality assurance methods that enable the economic recycling of carbon and glass fibre components. MC4 focuses on various reuse and recycling processes along the life cycle of composite components. These include chemical recycling technologies for economically efficient separation of matrix and carbon fibres; processing technologies for the reuse of prepreg waste from the production process (e.g. cutting); mechanical recycling processes for glass fibre composite components. Furthermore, the use of novel resins for improved recyclability of glass fibre components and technologies for the processing of recycled carbon fibre to produce nonwovens that are further processed into components are also in the focus. The consortium consists of 15 partners from 7 European countries. Process developers, material producers, manufacturers of composite components and end users cover the entire value chain.
