EU Project PESCO-UP
Project partners meet in Slovenia
On 17 and 18 June 2024, the second PESCO-UP General Assembly Meeting took place in Slovenia. Our two colleagues Dr. Anna Große and Romy Naumann were on site to share the latest results from the project with the partners and to set the milestones for the upcoming months.
Launched at the beginning of this year, the PESCO-UP project focuses on transforming mixed cotton/ polyester waste into high-quality and pure materials for the next use cycle, aligning with the EU's 2025 textile waste mandatory collection. Following its experience, STFI is mainly responsible for yarn spinning and textile production trials, including also the evaluation of the recycled cotton and PES fibres and their processing into textile fabrics by weaving, knitting or nonwoven production. Furthermore, STFI contributes to the development of a circular textile demonstrator. Therefore, Anna and Romy discussed together with the project partners about the fibre recycling and the fibre quality for further processing.
The PESCO-UP meeting coincided with the 5th International Scientific Conference NANOAPP 2024 of Nanomaterials & Applications organised by IOS, Ltd. (SI) where a panel discussion on the future of textile recycling was a main topic of the agenda.
