A cooperation between the ESCHE Lab and the STFI
The Textile LAB professional is a co-operation between the STFI and the Esche Lab of the ESCHE Museum in Limbach-Oberfrohna. The Esche LAB sees itself as a workshop for creative textile work that arose from the themes of the Esche Museum. The lab is one of nine maker hubs in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region in the Makers Business & Arts programme line of Chemnitz 2025. The Textile Lab Professional at the STFI is open to creative minds with expertise and a wide range of plant technology.
In the Textile LAB professional, the STFI supports creative professionals with expertise and provides access to a wide range of textile technologies, whether knitting, printing, lasering or recycling. What makes the STFI's pilot plants so special is the industrial and semi-industrial scale they offer, as well as the in-depth support provided by our technicians and scientists.

The Technical Centre for woven and knitted fabrics offers extensive technologies for surface formation and processing.

Various finishing processes are available in the functionalisation technical centre.
Recycling and surface formation
In addition to the production of nonwovens, there is also the possibility of mechanical recycling as well as the formation of strands and surfaces with textile waste materials.
