Lightweights for Paris
STFI at JEC WORLD 2023
This year's international lightweight construction trade fair JEC WORLD will take place from 25 to 27 April 2023 in Paris. The Sächsische Textilforschungsinstitut e.V. (STFI) will present its latest highlights from textile lightweight engineering and textile recycling at the stand of the Saxony Trade & Invest Corporation. The STFI is focusing its trade fair presence in Paris primarily on successful examples of industry collaborations contributing to the sustainability of manufacturing processes.
In the research project "optiformTEX" within the BMBF funding programme "Zwanzig20 – futureTEX", a new technology for flat natural fibre (NF) semi-finished products with load-appropriate topological fibre mass distribution was developed. This innovation allows a significant weight reduction of up to 30 % for lightweight components, especially in automotive interiors. The "3D-Lofter" module for local reinforcement of nonwovens by means of defined fibre accumulations was developed and built by project partner Oskar Dilo Maschinenfabrik KG, Eberbach. One example of the module was integrated into a laboratory needlepunch nonwovens line in the STFI's technical centre and is available for customer trials and subsequent research projects.
As a result of the international BMBF project "HiPeR - Oriented Carbon Fibre Structures from Aviation Production Waste for Reuse in Aircraft", a structural component for aviation made of recycled carbon was created for the first time. For this purpose, rCF tapes were developed at STFI from both recovered, mechanically processed waste and pyrolysed fibres. You will find the rCF tapes at the STFI stand, the component itself will be presented at the CU stand/CTC.
